- English description: During elections in german federal state of Hesse the social democrats suffered a severe defeat. The party's percentage of vote fell from 36.7 to 23.8 %. The new SPD fraction elected Thorsten Schaefer-Guembel, front runner during election campaign and confidant of Andrea Ypsilanti, as chairman. Ypsilanti was his predecessor in presiding the fraction and failed last year in being elected as governor of Hesse as four members of her fraction refused to vote for her. They accused her of breaching her promise not to cooperate with extreme-leftist Linkspartei party. Ypsilanti needed all votes of the Linkspartei fraction to safeguard a very thin majority in parliament. Slogan below: our new lodestar - Schaefer-Guembel.
